As of yesterday, December 21st, I regret to inform you that I-CON 32 planned for March 21st, 22nd and 23rd of 2013 has been postponed.

Detials can be found here: http://iconsf.org/

Opinion? Should we make alternate plans as a group?

Well that sucks...
Almost booked a Marriot Hotel room for that Saturday for the family...
A minicon? Thats something we can put together....

I can put together the following:
Check out Marriott Islip as a possible location
Donate $500 towards room rentals
Paizo & Pathfinder Society will be more than happy to support an event we can organize- I can have a half dozen volunteer GMs run 6 tables worth of Pathfinder Society with product support.
Have Conflict Games provide a tourney supporting multiple tables.
Get Brothers Grimm and Game Master as vendors.

How hard could it be? WE got lawyers, cops, authors, professional managers, decades of experience and tons of creativity...lets get together and talk about it... ive seen idiots with less talent at hand pull it off... so we can at least consider it

While I was tempted to select our own mini-con, I have several concerns about it.

First is the financials. According to sources last year, which I admit were not very good and other hearsay years before, the amount of money I-Con has been pulling in has been steadily dropping since 2001 to the point that they are postponing this year's con in part because of financial concerns.

Second, Its not just hotel space. We would have to form a not for profit corporation, to prevent personal liability. This means about $500 in incorporation and other fees and then yearly accounting fees for taxes.

There was also another con (Traveller-Con) that cancelled this year. In this economy it is not easy for our target audience (College kids through young adults) to come up with $50 or more to play games.

I am willing to keep an open mind because I really would like nothing better than to host our own convention. I am just concerned because my financial situation is extremely tough and I cannot float a large investment. It would be nice if we could cover the cost with a small investment from each of us and cover the rest through vendors.

In addition, I would like to see more concrete numbers on hotel space and what we could charge. We have over a dozen GM's built in + the additional support from Pathfinder and Conflict gives us plenty of games. What we need to know now is how many players can we expect and how much will they pay?

Just my 2 cents as one of the pair of legal eagles, I'm sure the other one may have other concerns.
